I hit a racoon, and something got ripped off in my car?

I am know nothing about cars and how they work. Anyway I hit a big raccoon and some black thingy got ripped off from underneath the car close to the passenger side. There is no writing on that thing, so I don't know what it is or what it is suppose to do. I just know there is tube connected to it and it seems like it is sucking air.





Can someone tell me what it is and what it is for? and maybe how much those cost?

As Sham said, it was probably the silencer. But instead of getting it fixed you could take it off. I know on my Mustang the silencer restricted air flow since the tubing narrowed down.
