An orphaned racoon has found its way onto my porch and I have been feeding it a formula we used on baby racoons years ago. However, he is starting to grow and needs more to eat...any suggestions? Can you tell me what to feed a racoon?
Whatever you find daily in a dumpster. Can you tell me what to feed a racoon?
yeah id go with what Kim N said
Dog food, gram crackers, stuff like that. make sure to give him a bowl of water to wash his food in.
Also, raw eggs, fruit, oats.
they will eat most human food, but dont feed him anything too fatty or greasy.
again, make sure he can wash it.
cat food
I would feed him fresh fruits such as: apples, oranges, corn, and those kinds of foods. and also fresh veggies, such as: carrots and lettuce. Cut these up and put them in a bowl. Also, I would mix some fresh, cut-up fish to go with that! Good Luck and I hope that this helps!
Hi, I think that it's good that you are taking care of it, but it is really a safety hazard. I would call animal control to quarantine the racoon if I were you. Many racoons have rabies. My German Shepherd/Boxer mix just died back in March due to a rabid racoon attack.
Seriously, it may be an interesting experience but your safety comes first.
Raccoons are omnivorous. In the wild, they eat insects, crayfish (crawdads), small fish, nuts, fruit, and about anything else they can find. A quality cat food can be the basis of the diet, but whole grain bread or cereal, fruits, nuts, and vegetables should be offered also as well as plenty of fresh clean water in a bowl large enough for ';washing'; food in. Avoid sugary and salty foods, but naturally fatty foods aren't bad for them when they're growing or storing fat for the winter. If you're up for a bit of messy fun, offer him some peanut butter. ;-D
