How do you get rid of a racoon?

it keeps ripping off our soffet and running around at night, we thought it was in the attic but now it seems its in the soffet, just running around keeping us up all night. We don't have any animal control in our neighborhood and we've tried turning the lights on in the attic, any more good ideas please? How do you get rid of a racoon?
From website:

For hundreds of years woodsmen have understood how to influence animal behavior. They do this through manipulating natures pecking order. Strategically, they have used the predator鈥檚 territorial marking tool (urine) to successfully attract and repel animals even today.

Shake-Away Large Animal Powder uses this same effective strategy. It contains the scent (urine) of a predator more dominant than the racoon (coyote). By introducing the scent of a ';predator';, you send a forceful message to the offending animal. That message is; This area has now been ';claimed'; by a much bigger threat. Rather than risk a potentially harmful conflict, your trespasser will now look for another spot for food or shelter. How do you get rid of a racoon?
try a live trap that can be bought at hardware store and corn from a fed store, catch and release at your best friends house

This sounds good, though it may bring other problems, what if real coyotes start coming over to your house and search the area, the scent will be inviting to them, did you think about that? Depending on where you live of course, if it's by the mountains, I wouldn't try this.

catch and release to the state fish and game

Doesn't this mean that your attic or soffet will smell from coyote piss? That sounds like it is not very desirable.

Trap it and release it far away but the new scent does make me leery. I got two that comes by and eats my peanuts for the squirrells (in their own little box too) and they ARE afriad of the light.

And watch for rabies.

I've always heard that fox or coyote urine makes a good deterrent. Use it on hard surfaces only.

Good luck

How about those hav-a-hart live animal traps? Bait it, set it, and then when they are caught drive them someplace more than three miles away and just tip the trap to open it.

I also heard that if you sprinkle ammonia near where you want to keep them away they will not go there. I tried that on garbage cans after I saw a giant one working to open my garbage can one night and it seemed to keep it away after that.
You can buy a Safeheart trap at any Tractor Supply Store. They work great for trapping if you can't shot the darn critter. We have used both methods. Best of Luck...I know they can be frustrating.
Very smart %26amp; persistent, raccoons are challenging animals to control. Because they thrive around populations of people, the list of problems with them is long. From coming into your house through pet doors, to pulling shingles off of your roof. They will invade your space until persuaded otherwise. Yet calling Professional Raccoon Control to remove them, can be Very Expensive. USE ';SHAKE-AWAY'; TO REMOVE THEM SAFELY %26amp; EASILY.

Note: Laughing Libra is off her nut, never use ';Anti-Freeze'; - ';a Killer';, of all living matter. It is meant for your vehicle, and that is it.
It may be trapped, and is probably looking for a way out. Leave an escape opening and then repair the soffit, after making sure that the raccoon is outside, to keep it from getting back in.
you could try a humane box trap that doesn't hurt the animal. Larger sports stores like ***** or Cabela's have them.
A steel trap batted with a sardine raccoon,s carry rabies get rid of it if you catch it in a trap shoot it or get some one to
Play loud music. Get a transister radio and tune it to a rock station and set it near the area your racoon seems to be visiting.
contact the humane society %26amp; they will come %26amp; get it for you.
12 gage shotgun
You should try contacting the State's wildlife control agency.

I heard to put out antifreeze, but that would kill it and cats are also attracted to the taste.

Raccoons have a high rate of being rabid and are very dangerous when cornered. Treat a raccoon in your attic as you would an invasion of rats or pigeons. Despite their cute little masks and depictions in cartoons, they are dangerous and pests.

If you move the raccoon in the neighborhood it would find it's way back to your place because it may already have a litter in your attic. And do not be fooled if you think the wildlife people are going to relocate it to a wilderness area. They more likely would exterminate it also because they are not endangered and this particular one is used to invading human homes.
