The screen was broken and dumbly, no one fixed it. I can hear them in there. They were obviously just born. My cruel Mom wants to have someone come and just trap and kill them. If we coax the Mom out with food and get the babies (WITH GLOVES) and move them to a better area, will she reject them? Would animal control take care of this for free since our taxes pay them? Should I consult a naturalist at a nature center? Could I raise the babies myself if she rejects them?HUGE PROBLEM! What can I do about a racoon that just had babies in our chimney?
What you can do is you can call your city's animal control services and they will come out and put up some traps for you in the area where the raccoon and her babies are at. You check on the traps everyday and when the raccoon and her babies have been caught, you call the city and they will come and pick up the raccoon along with her babies and release them somewhere else. I live in Texas and we have a problem with possums. We had one in that had made its home in the attic of our garage and that's what we did. I definitely would not recommend you try to even go near the raccoon, because raccoons are very aggressive and since this one has babies, she will perceive you as a threat. Raccoons carry rabies so don't take that risk. You can also call someone to come out and pay a fee to remove the raccoon and her babies. Just ask before you call them out what they do with the animals after they have been caught so that you're sure they are released afterwards.HUGE PROBLEM! What can I do about a racoon that just had babies in our chimney?
Racoons are a very prolific species and are the Einsteins of the animal world. If they want something bad enough they will figure out how to get to it. I presume this is a fireplace chimney. One thing you could try would be to star a ';little'; fire, preferably with green wood To create smoke, and try to smoke them out. The mother should move the babies on her own. If this does'nt work, call animal control. I would NOT recommend trying to move them on your own. Like all mothers, racoon moms can be very vicious where their babies are concerned. Although I do know of people who have raised them, I again would not recommend it. Racoons not only carry rabies but also many other diseases that could potentially could be hazardous to humans. Even if you did decide to raise them, keep in mind that they are still a wild animal and should remain as such. Also, most states require a permit to keep a wild animal of any kind, if they permit it at all.
just call animal control, some racoons have rabies so try to stay away from them
I would call animal control to find out if they can remove the mother and babies from your chimney. If they can not, there may be a service like a critter catcher that will remove all from your chimney and move them to another appropriate place in the woods or something near but not too near. Of course it goes without saying, get your chimney screen repaired as soon as they are removed. Make sure your fireplace is blocked inside your house so they can't get in if they fall. Good luck!
well u could shoot them, u could call animalpatroll or u could take care of them u can feed them dog food
Call an exterminator!
Honestly,
Start a fire.
No, not a huge fire...just a few small pieces of paper, enough to get some smoke into the chiminey.
Raccoons are very mean especially with babies around. You don't want anything to do with them, trust me. Let the mother do the work she needs to do to get her babies out of there.
You don't want to kill them, just get them out of there.
The smoke will alarm the mother coon and she'll pack up her kids and leave.
It works. Just don't cook em....:)
