I want to go to sleep but it still scratching. My husband banged on the wall to scare it away and it went away now it came back within 5 min. and started to do the same thing. I afraid it's going to get in my house. What can I do if everybody is asleep.?I think there is a racoon in my attic. Scraping in there can it go thru my walls and get in my house?
Raccoons are voracious diggers. and yes in time if it is digging for a nest it will dig through the wall. I do not want to scare you but coons are also vicious and can go from cuddly to ripping your eyes out in seconds even pet raccoons can be this bipolar, not to mention they are frequent holders of distemper a disease that can be the end of your dog or cat.
what I would suggest is place a cup of antifreeze in the attic. Coons love it but it will put them to sleep and then kill them in their sleep. if you are against killing a double door trap is the next best option though coons are fast learners if it fails once the trap will not fool the coon again.
if the coon is digging at your wall it is either digging a burrow for a nest or trying to gain access to your house because .. well come on human food that's heaven to animals right? so you should act ASAP the last thing you want on your hands is raided cupboards and an angry coon in your kitchen.I think there is a racoon in my attic. Scraping in there can it go thru my walls and get in my house?
Oh yes - it's only 1/2'; or 5/8'; of sheet rock between this beast and your house. You really got to get up in the attic and kill this thing - or trap it out or whatever. But you got to get rid of it - and then you have to figure out how it got into your house and plug up the hole!
You really don't want to live around these creatures - god only knows what they carry - they could carry that disease that field mice carry - hantavirus.
Oh god, I HATE that! It's not likely to come into the house, but it can damage any wires and insulation that are in the spaces, and if you have plaster ceilings its urine could leak onto them and stain.
You need to call a roofer and have your roof sealed. They get in when the seal is broken around the tiles or shingles, and above the eaves. There should be no room for critters to get in when the roof in in good repair and properly sealed. It is also important to make sure he is absent when the repairs are done, which can be tricky if the animal is nocturnal - he will be in there sleeping during the day when the roof work is being done. If he does get sealed in, you will have to get a live bait cage and set it up in the roof space to get rid of him. Be sure to let him go at least 10 miles from your house or he might come back. (you really shouldn't kill it whatever it is because you really, really don't want a dead animal stuck somewhere where you can't get him out! pu)
The damage a raccoon or a squire ll can do is very, very great to the wiring amd insulation it is not something to not be concerned about. A friend had a bad smell and found one very dead animal that had chewed on a major electric wire and was very, very dead. the local electrician said that in my rural area it is quite common, and a lost of unsolved fires probably are caused by these cute animals. so get a havaheart trap, call the spca, check with your farm agent or if needed an exterminator but act now being sure the hole the animal got in is sealed tightly.
It could also be a roof rat. They generally stay in the attic spaces then venture out for food via a tree branch or fence. They can't get up there without some form of a bridge from the ground outside. Once there, they will nest and reproduce then you have worse problems. Call a pest control company. They are skilled at dealing with raccoons and rats.
It could also be a squirrel or a rat, I am sorry to say. An exterminator is in order.. Drill a hole and shoot in some poisonous gas or granules is all I can say. Explosives also work, but more damage. Then you have to find the carcase before it rots.
try to get it in a cage that closes when it is in.
You have to bait the cage.
I doubt that it can get in your house.
Go to sleep , he won't be breaking through the walls. But call the ASPCA or an exterminator ASAP in the AM.
we have bats in the bellfree
