There is a racoon living under my back porch. What should I do?What should I do if a racoon is living under my deck?
You can either call local animal control, or get a live trap and set it out (make sure you're dogs aren't out!) and then have animal control pick him up once you catch him.
Like another poster said, some racoons do carry rabies, so whenever you're dealing with wildlife, its best to talk to somebody experienced with it.What should I do if a racoon is living under my deck?
call someone?
If you can catch him under it, spray him with a water hose. If you do this enough he will leave. If it has babies under the deck it will be harder to get rid of it. The coon is a lot more scared of you than you might think. You just need to irritate it enough to make it not want to stay. My neighbor had this problem last year. It wouldn't leave no matter what we did. I finally had to shoot it. I hope your coon isn't that stubborn.
Good luck.
feed it. you don't want a stinking rotting racoon under you deck now do you.
Charge rent you are getting ripped off.
You should wait until it is gone and put a live trap under there and catch him then you can take him out somewhere and let him go
If the suggestions here don't work, call and have it trapped and relocated elsewhere before it has babies! A good hard blast with the hose should send it running.Don't know if it is cold where you are or not. They will have their young soon.
Chicken wire buried is a good idea.Or any wire able to keep the varmit out.Hopefully your deck isn't really large and the job can be done in a day.Invite your friends over to help and have a party.
Invite him in .................................
I know when there were a couple of skunks under the porch I tried putting moth balls under there. It worked like a charm. These animals are extremely sensitive to smell so the strong odor of the mothballs will generally drive them away.
You can also try calling the city animal control officer. Your city may provide the live animal traps necessary to catch the raccoons and then they will release them into the wild.
If you don't want to hurt it. When it goes out as it will. Get chicken wire and put it up around your deck. You will have to bury it a bit. It is going to be time consuming but during the process the critter wont come around while you are there. If you don't care if it gets hurt. Shoot it when it comes out, find a friend to shoot it. Another option is call a service to get it.
first and foremost.STAY AWAY from it. they are rapid(rabie carrier). call ,and get a live trap, from some place, that deals in animals in your area. good luck.
They are noctural, if it isnt bothering you let it be. If you want to be rid of it, it will cost a couple of hundred to have a pest co. come. We had one in an attic, and it had to go. They are hard to catch and we had to end up shooting it. It was brutal.
Raccoons are nocturnal, which means that they usually come out at night. When you hear it, send your husband out in his long underwear, snow boots, Elmer Fudd hat , and loaded shotgun. have him slowly sneak around the porch and when the coon growls at him have him blast away!!! You might end up with holes in your porch (or in our case the deck) but you will have stories to tell for years to come, with proof.
CHARGE HIM RENT !
just kidding. you should call the police and they will tell you who takers care of wild animal problems in your area.
you do not want a racoon that close. even without rabies, they destroy garbage cans and can be very dangerous !
