Are wild Racoon a danger to pet cat outside at night. Comes to our patio for water at night!?

Live in the city, Racoon hangs out at old unoccopied residence. Are wild Racoon a danger to pet cat outside at night. Comes to our patio for water at night!?
Raccoons can carry rabies. There could also be altercations between the two. I would trap the raccoon and have it relocated to a nice forest somewhere. Are wild Racoon a danger to pet cat outside at night. Comes to our patio for water at night!?
Please all my cat fans, I have just lost my 16 yr old Cat to a Racoon. I have seen them walk by him before many of times. Don't know what triggered the attack and don't want to know. I would try and catch the racoon for peace of mind. Or keep your cat inside at night when they are out.

When the local strays were sitting lined up halfway down the driveway because a raccoon was eating out of the dry food bowl 3 years ago that was when I knew the local coons were getting too aggressive.

Get yourself a live trap - you can rent them or put down a deposit with the humane society which you'll get back in full -- and live trap the raccoon and move it at least 5 miles. Releasing by a river or water source, with trees and underbrush is where they'll likely stay and not return. The 5 miles is a good distance to discourage walk-backs.

Yes, they can be deadly to cats, especially if the cat doesn't want to retreat at first. They're fast, very good with their teeth, and will look at kittens as a food source.
Racoons can carry rabies. If they are coming onto your patio for water or cat food they will bring others with them, before you know it you could be over run by racoons. I've seen it happen. What started out as one racoon turned into 25 racoons.

They are mostly just wanting the food or water and won't harm your cat but it's still not a good idea to allow it to continue. Remove the water from your patio and bring your cat in at night.
most certainly!! a raccoon almost killed my 100 lb pit-bull!! They're extremely terriotorial and aggresive. I would bring your cat in at night, and make sure your property is fenced i nand your grabage cans are closed properly. Raccoons are not friendly, they're wild animals, and they WILL attack.

be very very careful.
i have never heard of a raccoon attacking a house cat, cats are very fast and can climb better than a raccoon. raccoons are a potential danger to humans because they can carry rabbis and bite humans. if there is one nearby, it should be trapped or shot to save yourself and your family.
it can be if either feels territorial or if it becomes ill. there are some diseases that spread back and forth between domestic animals and wildlife - many of them fatal - so i would check into getting it captured with a humane trap then moved to another area. your local dnr may be able to help with that.
yes they can be dangerous.. my cat jitter has to be in before dark... theres a woods in the back of my home and racoons and other animals come out... and my neighbor said her cat was attacked by a racoon one time ...so yes keep your cat in at night its better to be safe then sorry....
Most Cats won't mess with a raccoon. I have them around here and never has any of my cats been bothered. They do carry rabies, so you might want to get cat vaccinated for diseases.
Yes! Raccoons carry many diseases. The best way to protect your cat is to have it vaccinated.
I use to have a family of coons that would eat and drink with my cats. nothing ever happened
