I have a racoon running around my attic. I can't go up on the attic because it's not strong enough and i don't want to call any services becase i don't have the money. how should i get rid of it?How to get rid of a racoon?
Your community may have specific rules about what you can do in regard to ridding your home of wildlife.
Raccoons may live around humans, but they do not like humans. The sound of a human voice is known to drive away raccoons. Place a radio, set to a talk radio station, in the vicinity of their nest. It doesn't have to be loud, start with a low volume level. If it doesn't get results, try increasing the volume. Leave the radio on day and night.
Raccoons prefer dark places for their nests. If you can light up your attic or crawlspace, this will disturb the raccoons, possibly enough to make them move out.
Raccoons are clean animals, in fact they often wash their food before eating. Because of this habit of cleanliness, they do not foul their nests. Ammonia, a chemical found in urine, is an offensive odor for raccoons. Soak rags in ammonia and place them as near to their nest as safely possible. You may also want to place soaked rags near all possible entrances. If you have difficulty reaching the nest, you might be able to apply ammonia in the vicinity with a squirt bottle. Periodically retreat the area with ammonia. How to get rid of a racoon?
Call your local animal control office, they should come out and remove the animal for free (atlest thats how it works in my county). You dont want to mess around with wild animals curtainly not a racoon, those things are MEAN. They might look all cute and fuzzy but they arent.
Try to find out how it gets in, then late in the evening when the racoon is out block its entrance
get a dog or borrow one..it will scare him out!
You should call animal control, I am not sure if they charge or not but it is usually a community service, at least contact them if they will not get the raccoon, they should be at least able to tell you how to trap it and remove it. you could also try a live trap in the attic, but that would require someone to get in there to set the trap and check it. NEVER put a dog up against a raccoon, unless you are willing to put the dog down after the raccoon is done with it. Raccoons can cause a lot of damage to another animal or a human, their claws are made to rip apart wood. They will at least send you to the doctor or an animal to the vet. They are even meaner when cornered in a confined space.
Your city's department won't catch it for free? They should. Set a trap.
Could be rabid or have distemper, you don't want to
try handling it. You can rent a live trap, usually at a feed
store, and bait it with old pork chop bones or whatever
who rents it to you recommends, then release it in
a wild area. If there's more than one they learn fast
and the second one may not be fooled into entering
the trap.
Get one of those cage traps.....my grandmother sets them on here property....if she can do it, you can do it lol......but she has caught 2 this week with it. I am not sure what to food to put in it.....but definitely try the cage!
Spray red pepper
It works wonders
If you put red pepper around your propriety it will get on their paws the red pepper than burns their tongue and they don't come back
I've used it in my yard and and pails, also heard about it getting them out of an attic
so thanks for the thumbs down
You will need to rent or barrow a live trap. You bait the trap, slide it up in the attic, and wait for the trap to catch the raccoon . When releasing the raccoon, travel far away from your home, because they will return. This is the most human way. You need to find out how it got up there to begin with. Some type of opening in the exterior of your house. Fix that area. Raccoons sleep during the day and roam at night. Good luck.
They're generally friendly. I'd lure it to you with food and gently carry it outside. Simple!
