I love it on celebrities but not on me. Any suggestions? Will smoky eyes look good on someone with dark skin or just make her look like a racoon?
smokey eyes are wayyyy glam, and i personally like it better on people with darker skin, you just need to know what shades to use. i would do it like this, (and trust me darlin i know makeup)
1.)apply black eyeliner to the top and bottom, winging it out a little from the top like amy winehouse only definatley not as drastic
2.)highlight your brow bone and inner eye with a really light silver. not to light though you dont want to look tooo awake
3.)take a smokey grey color and put it on your lids starting at the crease. then take the applicator and push it in to your lower lashes on top of the black eyeliner.
4.) put two coats of mascara on your top and bottom lids.
5.)go light on all other makeupWill smoky eyes look good on someone with dark skin or just make her look like a racoon?
Hi,
I received a Best Answer on this subject maybe it will help you. You can have smoky eyes maybe it's the product or the way your applying it. Look at Tyra Banks or some of your famous Mexican actresses like Penelope Cruz and Selma Hyak they do smoky. You just have to keep finding what works for you, and have fun. Please let me know how it works out for you. Read my info below.
Prep your lids, and under your eyes first with a tiny bit of eye cream. Just enough to help your shadows not chalk up. Make sure you use powder shadows and not creams for this. Put a champagne color on top and bottom of lid like near the inner corner of your eyes and up around your brow. You want to define the eye so put a eyeliner along the upper lash line, but not like Amy Winehouse. Don't overkill by putting it on bottom too because the next step will help your eyes pop. Sweep a gray or a slate color along your lid and under the lower eyelashes. Use a darker gray in the crease of your eye for a contour. Remember a lot goes a long way you don't want to look scary dark you want to look smoky and sultry. Sometimes I take a bit of the champagne color and put it on the bottom lid on top of the dark color. It makes the eye color pop more. Don't forget to curl your lashes first before applying any mascara. Here's a trick I use. I always blow dry my hair last so before I apply my mascara after I've already put makeup on I set the blowdryer to high and just for about 10 seconds or so heat my eyecurler using the blowdryer. Make sure you don't make the curler too hot or you will burn your eye lids. I always try it by holding it in my hand first to feel how hot it's become. Then curl your lashes. I have bluegreen eyes and this always looks fantastic afterwards. Remember if you emphasize your eyes the most take it easy on the cheek color and lips you won't need as much, and don't use a heavy dark color on your lips if your going smoky for your eyes. Victoria's Secret has a great lip gloss duo for $14.00 that's fantastic.
Anyone can have a smoky eye. It all depends on what colors you use. Most people think that smoky means using black or grey. But in reality you can use any color, and smoky is more the method of application.
Some people can pull it off, and other's can't. Just like any other trend or style. If you have darker skin, typically I would go for slight touches of gold rather than going for a smokey eye.
try using a lighter shade
gold or skin tones to begin with to get used to the effect and gradly build up to darker colours.
if you do it right it will look fabby on dark skin!!
