There hasn't been a single case of wild animal rabies in my corner of Washington state in over 70 years, so I am not worried about that. Are there any other diseases the raccoon could pass on to cats by sharing food with them? Are there any communicable diseases that a racoon could pass on to feral cats by sharing food with them?
We live in a rural community at a lake area.
We have feral cats And Raccoons plus many other wild animals, small and larger around our property. We have two small dogs for family pets.
We have often had to trap animals. I do not know about passing diseases thru the food. However the county trapper has told us the racoon feces is very disease ridden. An example given is :
If the cat walks thru the feces area and gets it on it's feet, then licks it's feet clean the disease is transferred. Racoons are not very friendly animals either. We have caught some over 40 lbs. and one tore open the cage. Tuff little buggers.. cute but nasty.
We tried relocating them and the trapper had a fit, said it just moves the disease to another area. We quit doing that. Are there any communicable diseases that a racoon could pass on to feral cats by sharing food with them?
Contact your county trapper, if you have one.

I've got a Illinois pet supply store that has great deals on cat food. Try dropping in on a pet supply store in Washington and talk to the managers. http://www.petsupplieshelp.com/Washington-Pet-Supply-Stores.html Nearly all pet supply store employees are happy to answer any questions.
I heard there is something they can transmit but it could be old wives tales .They can get worms all right
