How do I get a racoon out of my attick?

There was scratching in my attic above my back door one night. I wasn't quite sure what it was. A couple nights later I went out to the garage to get something and looked up above the door that leads back into the house and there was a HUGE racoon. I called animal control and they said that they no longer will trap them for you. They will loan you a trap and come release it for you, but they can't relocate it, they have to release it in your back yard. I've run him out before by leaving the light on in the attic, but as soon as I turn it off again, he comes back. I don't want to pay that electric bill or keep changing the lights. How do I get a racoon out of my attick?
That's bullshit. Let it attack your kids and then sue animal control. How do I get a racoon out of my attick?
Get yourself a live trap and relocate the coon yourself. They run about $30. You could get a motion detector that makes noise or turns lights on and off when activated and put it in the attic but it could take some time to discourage him.
smoke bomb fun and esay way or you could just go all like bang with a shotgun and blow the things head off but it could get a little messy ;)
You have entered the twilight zone. This happened to my neighbor at the beach. Mama Racoon entered tore up the heating ducks...had a litter and moved in to stay. She found out about it when some eyes were staring at her through the inside grates. The fumegator came out and set up the traps using canned cat food. The racoons didn't fall for it...it cost over 4K...

That is nothing if the skunks decide to take over...lotsa $$

The only wild animal protected is a possum.

When you get rid of them do not leave the dog's water or petfood out. Racoons can be dangerous. Good luck!
get a pest illiminator in there...
animal control is a government agency- and predictibly not helpful. try calling a no-kill shelter. if they cannot help you, they will likely have info on who can. good luck!!
find an animal rehabber in your area to help you out! do you know how many coons are in your attic? If you know for sure and spot those coons outside of your attic.......repair the spot the coons came in immediately so they don't come back in!!!!!!!!!!!!it sounds like you have a mama and babies in your attic. you have to be careful and not leave one or more trapped in your attic.

search on-line for a rehabber near you or e-mail a rehabber more specifically a raccoon rehabber to help you with this situation!!!!
Maybe you could try calling a local wildlife sanctuary, instead of animal control. Sometimes they will have a list of rehabbers or employees of the sanctuary that will come and help you catch the animal. They usually will release it somewhere OTHER than you backyard!! If you are not sure where the closest wildlife sanctuary is, you could call your local vet offices and they may be able to tell you. Good Luck!
jenkjur and Rangels know what they're talking about. We are animal rehabbers specialising in raccoons. You might try a radio hooked up to a motion sensor to drive them away, sometimes that works. Otherwise, buy or rent (from a pet store) or borrow a humane trap and use that.

Be CAREFUL. Raccoons can carry rabies, are a LOT faster than they look and have a nasty bite. Mama raccoons are very protective of their young. If you succeed in trapping them, wear very heavy gloves to move the trap. Make DAMN sure you don't leave any babies behind. Baby raccoons are insanely cute but will die if out of their Mom's (or a rehabber's care) for any length of time.

If you get rid of Mama but end up with babies, you CAN take care of the until you find a rehabber. Real little ones can be fed using a dropper or small baby bottle with KMR (available at pet supply stores). Feed every three hours around the clock. Keep their little mouths pointed downward slightly to keep them from inhaling their food, which will probably kill them. Let them lick or suck the food , DO NOT force it into them!

If the young are a little older, you can feed them dry puppy food or, even better, ferret food (for some reason, they seem to like the ferret food better. Probably 'cause it's more expensive.)

If you can get a rehabber to help, by all means, do so.
