My indoor/outdoor cats keep getting hurt by a wild animal. I am at my wits and money end.Which of three, an opossum, an armadillo, or a racoon is the most likely to harm a house cat?
it would be between the racoon and the opossum,
if a cat confronts both, the racoon would attack straight away, while the opossum would play dead, then try to scare the cat and then attack if everything else fails, so I say racoon.Which of three, an opossum, an armadillo, or a racoon is the most likely to harm a house cat?
a raccoon bit our dear cat in the leg. his teeth went into her bone and cause her to get a blood infection that was not treatable. The vet explained that a wild animal has some germ....it was so sad, She died from it even though we gave her antibiotics and the vet tried to save her. She was l2 years old. So it was sad for us. So I know how you feel.
I think all the animals you mentioned would be harmful to a cat if they were guarding their babies or cornered. An opossum came after my husband one day hissing and snarling. I think they are less likely to attack though than coons just from experience. They tend to be slow moving and prefer to avoid problems.
I dont know where you live but you do know that there are feral cats everywhere? they are abandoned housecats that become wild and grow quite large. THey are often viscious and (esp if your cats are females) will hurt them mating etc. http://www.feralcat.com/
set a trap and see which one you catch! Im betting it will be a coon or a feral cat.

An armadillo.. harmless. Unless you piss it off.
An opossum... yea, maybe attacking your cat.
A raccoon.... if the cat took some of its food.
Racoon
Raccoon, opposum, the armidilo
My cats kept dying, so I got smart. My cats are indoor now.
