I have been feeding a baby racoon with a bottle for a week, twice a day.?

He now has a wound the size of a quarter on his back with maggots. WILL peroxide help.I have been feeding a baby racoon with a bottle for a week, twice a day.?
look up local wildlife center in your area and bring it there.first of all not trying to be rude because i know you're trying to save the little guy but it should be eating esbilac puppy formula with heavy whipping cream every 2-4 hours.secondly the maggots on his back are a good thing in the wound because they will eat the dead tissue. But you need to get it to a wild life center so they can give it the professional help it needs if you have any other questions please email me hellokitty218@ymail.com

I'm pulling an all nighter any tips so I don't look like a racoon tommorow?

Well you're a guy, but concealer is about the only way to hide dark circles. Hopefully now that it's 3 days later, your eyes are back to normal. :-)

Once I catch a racoon or possum in my live trap, how far should I take it so it doesn't return?

I live in the country and don't want to kill anything.Once I catch a racoon or possum in my live trap, how far should I take it so it doesn't return?
Good luck, you are probably gonna be trapping for a long time. Both these animals have the ability to return to the home range if not displaced far enough. So be prepared to take a long drive.

Something else. Do NOT release any animal you capture on private property. I would suggest you don't get caught releasing it anywhere. All you are really doing is giving someone else your pest problem.

Raccoons can range over several miles. Have a home range from 2 to 4 square miles.

http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/UW033

Opossum are mostly nocturnal. Therefore range and home range are more compressed than those of the raccoon.

http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/wildlife/opo鈥?/a>Once I catch a racoon or possum in my live trap, how far should I take it so it doesn't return?
Opossum, about half mile. Raccoon, about 7 states. Dont blame ya for not wanting to kill. We seldom do unless we intend to use it. Remember that any living creature is looking for something. Figure out what and take it away. Its almost always food. Then they will go elsewhere.

Did PETA stage the Racoon dog and husky skinning video?

Is this genuine inside information to help air what happens or is it animal snuff films created especially to help raise funds for the charity to stop this, so by killing and filming a few animals it could save many millions? I am confused as I have read PETA stage videos by paying the chinese skinners more to film intense cruelty and them show it as the norm. I would appreciate any factsDid PETA stage the Racoon dog and husky skinning video?
No they did not stage this, this is what acctually happens In china fur farmers are not governed, therfore they are free to kill these amimals in anway they like....I dont know about people paying to film them but If there is people seeing what actually happens to theese poor animals thn maybe the shock effect is needed to stop people from buying fur!

these poor animals are treated soo cruely they are not even treated like a living being... Its sick and UNFORTUNATLY it is happening.....Did PETA stage the Racoon dog and husky skinning video?
PETA does a lot of shady things. I haven't head of this, but I stopped paying attention to their antics long ago.

Do you know they want all companion animals (dogs, cats, rabits, etc) KILLED because we shouldn't own them as pets and they can't live on their own? And taht shelter PETA runs, they kill the majority of the animals that go in. They only adopt some out so they can claim to be a shelter.

Disgusting.
PETA very likely was in the making of the film, but I assure you it was not staged. This really happens. I have heard PETA is working in China and they very well could have been responsible for exposing it. I don't like PETA. Though who ever exposed this I'm glad they did, change will not happen if no one knows about it.
People Eating Tasty Animals. PETA. They are nutcases.
no sorry thst was not stage that was real that is how china treats there animals not nice
YES!

Is it legal to have a pet racoon in california?

Hi Ellie... any native wildlife cannot be kept legally in the state of California. Please see the following list which shows which animals are not legal to keep in CA: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/species/n鈥?/a>Is it legal to have a pet racoon in california?
Raccoons are wild animals. They can be extremely aggressive and do not make good pets. I don't know if its legal anywhere(i hope it isn't) but i don't recommend trying to get one as a pet.Is it legal to have a pet racoon in california?
I don't think so i don't see why not.....i want a pet racoon now!!! That would be awsome!!!
No, they are wild animals
nope, move to oregon
sadly, its not.

  • Does anyone have a pet racoon? Can they be domesticated? Please Help!?

I managed to trap a live racoon in my attic. He seems ferocious, but I bet after some TLC he will start to warm to me and my family.Does anyone have a pet racoon? Can they be domesticated? Please Help!?
When I was a child back in St. Olaf we used to keep racoons for pets all the time. We used to punt them to see how far they fly and swing them by the tails. We had a great time till the whole town broke out into the foaming mouth disease. It was un explainable where it came from but we werent able to keep our racoons anymore.Does anyone have a pet racoon? Can they be domesticated? Please Help!?
I'm a Wildlife Rehaber. One of my rescues are Raccoons.

And to answer your question NO. They are cute and loveable when their young but when they turn a year old their start getting wild. Please don't try to make a pet out of a raccoon.

Some states will charge a fine if you are found out.If you need anything answered cotact your local DNR.
    Umm negative.

You need to call animal control and have professionals take care of him and release him. He seems ferocious because he is, dont put yourself and your family in danger.
If it is a baby still needing weened there is a chance of making a nice pet for a while. but, as they get older they go by instincts and, tend to get mean. I have had several over the years they are like a destructive kitten and, very loveable as little ones. for your safety I suggest get rid of it if its past bottle feeding.. they do carry some diseases if they were to bite deep enough good luck
or you could just wear him
most people aren't lucky enough to have a racoon. I would recommend feeding him by hand so he can get to know your scent. This will make him become your friends and soon you can introduce him to your other friends like mike the monkey.

You do have a monkey named mike? If not then your not going to be able to cross the himalaya's in one piece.

Do you think they have Racoon's in Racoon City??
    1. It is illegal to capture and keep a wild raccoon.

    2. Wild raccoons are a major vector for rabies. Years ago, when I lived on the East coast, there was an outbreak of rabies. Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators were prohibited from accepting any raccoon or skunk from outside their own county, and raccoons from some areas had to be destroyed immediately if brought to a rehabber, even if they showed no signs of rabies. It is a very serious and very contagious disease that is fatal in humans if treatment is not started before the first symptom appears. If the raccoon bites you, or if you get any of its saliva on an existing cut, you need to get vacinated, and the raccoon may have to be destroyed.

    3. Raccoons do not ';tame'; once they reach sexual maturity. If it was a baby, you could fool yourself into thinking you had tamed him, but as soon as he reached sexual maturity, he would become agressive and destructive. As it is already an adult, you have no chance of taming it.

    4. Did I mention that it is illegal to capture and keep wild raccoons? It is also illegal to trap and relocate raccoons, due to the threat of rabies, unless you have the appropriate licenses and know where they are allowed to be released.

Contact a Nuisance Wildlife Control professional. That person would have the proper licenses and know where to legally relocate the raccoon so it is safe, and will not return to your attic.
Call the nearest Humane Society. The racoon could have rabies and bite you! You need to get him out of your attic. They can put the little guy safely back into nature!
A wild raccoon is not suitable as a pet. Also probably illegal where you live.
Dear god no please call animal control asap the poor fella will be terrified you really don't want to attempt to domesticate this intellegent little creature you will only store up heartache for yourselves and cause the critter misery and frustration and there is always the risk of rabies and other such diseases.

Don't be cruel by thinking you can keep it
please call animal control and have them take him out of the attic yes he is ferocious and may have rabies he will bite you under the best of circumstances and probably scratch you terribly please call animal control
No raccoons can not be domesticated. Its unfortunate that they can't because they seem like they would make nice pets. But the experts say they can't.

Here is a web site about it.

    http://www.isleauhaut.net/maskd/twentyre鈥?/a>
This is a wild animal. Take far away from your home and release it. racoons carry many diseases, the 2 worst being rabies and racoon roundworm. I hope you know what rabies is and does.* Not many people know about the roundworm. This is a parasite that only can live in the intestine of a raccoon. If it infects any other species it will eat through every organ trying to find the intestine of the raccoon. Needless to say this can cause a lot of problems and even death.

Even people who ';raise'; raccoons as pets need to have special permits. They are not pets!!! get rid of it now!!

i really dont want to get it professionally done, so how do i do it at home with a friend? How do you do a racoon tail in your hair?
My best guess would be to bleach, put vaseline or another thick oil-based product onto the sections of your hair you don't wish to dye, then hand-paint on the darker color.

Edit: Nevermind, a second later I thought of a better way to do it. Take the long strip of hair, then make it into the shape of an exaggerated S, making sure the hair is partioned evenly into two halves on either side of the S. Then clip the S in the middle, then cover one half with conditioner or vaseline or whatever, then dye the other half. Once you've washed out the dye and unclip the stacked up wave of hair, alternating halves of it will be dyed. How do you do a racoon tail in your hair?
Take the piece of hair that you want to be done

    Bleach it

After it is bleached, wrap pieces of tape about every inch

Dye the unwrapped parts with black dye

What is the best way to tame a pet racoon?

Raccoons do not tame. It is not in their nature. They are curious, destructive and tempermental. Keep it ourside or turn it in to wildlife rehab center to rehab and release it.What is the best way to tame a pet racoon?
    Don't.

They are not domesticated animals. It would be like trying to tame a crocodile, not possible.

Give the raccoon to the local animal authorities and get a cat. What is the best way to tame a pet racoon?
technically it's illeagl to have a pet raccon and they are a lot of work but if your willing to havbe one the best way is top arm your slef with lots and lots of marshmellows and sit by the edge of the cage and just wait for it to come over to you when it does offer it a marshmellow they love them and eventually it will decide that your cool and want to be around you. you may also want to find something to keep it busy like hide food in it's cage or take a plastic jar and put holes in it and then fill it with dog food or ceareal and make the holes big enough for the food to come out. i will take time for the 'coon to get used to youbut in the end it's worth it. i've raised 10 of them and there awsome. if you need any more help or advice feel free to e-mail me and i do my best.
    Let it go. Its illegal.
Why the hell would you want to.
I don't even know if your allowed to have a pet raccoon. But, if you want to tame in I would spend a lot time with it. Seat next to it cage and talk to it. try ti pet it and give it treat. If it a baby I say try it. If it an adult and you really want it I would say keep it for I few days feeding it and spending time. Then let it go and just keep feeding it outside I pretty sure it'll stick around if you feed it. Even make it a little house if you like. But if it used to be free I don't think it would be to nice to keep it in a cage.
Suger cubes will win 'em over everytime. Since, they are very meticulous eaters, it's only fair that you give them a bowl of water with their suger cubes, so that they can wash each cube in the water before devouring their new tasty treats.

Only problem with this is that the water tends to disolve the suger cubes before thir finished washing them completely.

You must at least try it once. It'll make your weekend! :-)

Is the Montauk monster really a decomposed Racoon?

    http://www.animachina.com/images/whatisit/montauk_monster_racoon.jpg

What do yall think it is?Is the Montauk monster really a decomposed Racoon?
I believe it is. I've seen dead animals with their coat sloughed off. Without fur they look much different than when alive. The dentition matches the raccoon, and the nose cartilage appears to be worn or eaten away (no ';beak'; as some have suggested). The carcass is said to be about 2 1/2 feet long, about right for a raccoon. Is the Montauk monster really a decomposed Racoon?
i think its probably a racoon.and it didnt have a beak it was a decomposed snout with missing teeth.it cant be a shelless turtle because they spine is attached to the shell and that animal has it spine.the only weird thing is the marine patrol bured it and the story wasnt supposed to be given out.its kinda funny that people were saying its the montauk monster and all it was was a decompsed racoon.
No it is not. I believe it is a dead dog. You can tell by the tail, four legs, ears, body structure, and the teeth. Probably the dog was killed and thrown into the ocean. It must of kept floating in the water and no sharks ate it and washed up on the shore. ( By the way it has no beak that is the skull being exposed )
That Montauk monster has a beak.

    Racoons do not have beaks.

    Neither do tapirs.

It's not a sea turtle without it's shell either because it also has teeth.

I have no idea of what it is. I'm leaning towards something from that research lab near the beach where it was found.
dead tapir. btw, that creature's body is pretty big for a racoon. but i could be wrong because tapir's have strange large toes.
    Most probably. Nice one.

I never believed it was a ';monster'; in the first place.

  • Is it true that if a racoon is out during the daytime, that it is rabid?

Definitely not. They will be out in the daytime in a couple of circumstances - 1) if they didn't get enough to eat during the night 2) they are habituated (meaning grown used to people) and people have been feeding them in the day.Is it true that if a racoon is out during the daytime, that it is rabid?
Not Necessarily. Raccoons can adapt their behavior to benefit the most from their environment - if there aren't too many humans around during the day then certainly they'll come out to scavenge. Is it true that if a racoon is out during the daytime, that it is rabid?
No, not at all, I have seen several out in the day. They probably just did not get enough to eat the night before and are still out foraging.
I wouldnt think so, Ive seen lots of raccoons in the daylight that looked very healthy, although they're usually out at night - sneeking around
Not all racoons out in the daytime have rabids. I seen one in the morning and just by looking at it there was something wrong with it.

Can I keep a pet racoon in America....?

If so where do I get it and is there any laws?

ThanksCan I keep a pet racoon in America....?
no it is against the law,you can however feed it outside and even get the vet to give it a rabies shot but DO NOT REFER to it as a pet.dont cage it or fence it in, if it is a recurring visitor thats ok.thats the best advice i can give.good luckCan I keep a pet racoon in America....?
Different states have different laws on exotic pets. Why would you want to remove a raccoon from it's natural habitat?
If it's an occasional visitor that you feed-no problem. If you keep it caged, at least in our area, you must have a wild game license (game farm license) to keep it. Your local Department of Natural Resources or similar group can handle that for you. Just remember rabies with racoons.
it depends if your holding it captive and there's nothing wrong with it than yes its also not fair because u would be taking it from it habitat and that's just rude if its a baby that was abandoned than no but u should take it to a wildlife shelter to they can take care of it and release it.

Racoon extensions - does anybody use other shampoo ?

To anybody who has raccoon hair extensions - i have been told you can only use raccoon hair products - i don't know if this is a con to just buy their products - but they are so expensive to keep replacing.

I found a cool racoon that seems friendly in my back yard, can i tame it and keep it as a pet?

what do they eat, how to tame, it looks sick too which vet should be good? wierd foam on its mouthI found a cool racoon that seems friendly in my back yard, can i tame it and keep it as a pet?
Racoon's have rabies as do skunks and etc. beware! Do not touch him or get too close. Try to put a box or wire cage over him and call animal control. (If you can not do this safely , just make the call. )Any time a grown coon comes up to you in daylight something is very wrong, coons are nocturnal and do not spend much time in the daylight.I found a cool racoon that seems friendly in my back yard, can i tame it and keep it as a pet?
you need to call the wildlife dept. to come out to help it
i am not sure you really want to try to tame him, they can fight like crazy i have watched them when racoon hunting with coon hounds they will back up and thrash two or three hounds at a time, they will drowned a hound if they get into the water with them if it sick i wouldnt try to mess with it much it may have rabies or some disease
    LOL u funni
Leave it alone!!!!!!! Use your head!!!!! This is a wild animal you are talking about. Have you ever heard of rabies?! These animals are one of the biggest carriers of this disease. They are a beautiful ';wild'; animal! However, best to leave in nature! Love from a far. :)
It has rabies. dont touch it, either leave it or call animal control and get them to remove it. It could be dangerous and if it bites you it will make you ill.
Let it go! It's a wild animal and cannot be tamed. It may have diseases, and just the fact that it ';seems friendly'; indicates it is probably sick! Plus, it may be illegal to keep in your area.
No way dude....you're gonna get the rabies!!!!
It would be better if you call someone to help it then let it go to the wild. Good Luck!
NOOO!!! Raccoons can transfer many diseases to humans---INCLUDING RABIES. If he is so friendly, he already MIGHT be rabid!!!

Call your local wildlife agency, immediately.
I see where you got your screen name!!! Stay as far away as possible!!!!! White foam = NO GOOD!!! Bad. Very bad!
I wouldnt touch it. When animals get rabies, they will act wierd. like get very friendly or very mean. this animal may just be getting friendly. but if you get bit by it you are in trouble. so I would just stay away. Hope that helps
I don't think that is a good idea at all. raccoons can seem really cute and fluffy, but under that, they are really mean. Raccoons have rabis, and they could bite you and really hurt you. Raccoons are born, and raised in the wild and thats the way they like it and I don't think he would like to live indoors. remember that possessing a wild animal is against the law, too and you could be put to jail.

We have a racoon nesting. We heard 2 on the roof fighting, so they possibly are breeding. Any solution please

Unless you see one in the day that looks sick I wouldn't worry about them. If you have a chimney and they are walking on the roof I would put some chicken wire over it to keep them out.We have a racoon nesting. We heard 2 on the roof fighting, so they possibly are breeding. Any solution please
We one time woke up on Easter Sunday to a hole in our roof. We later found out it was a raccoon in the attic. Hard to say if it went in or came out the hole. We called a friend at the forest preserve and she told us to put a light and a radio in the attic. Ra coons don't like noise or light when they are breeding. We now have both on a switch we can flip on from downstairs. It works. Good luck!We have a racoon nesting. We heard 2 on the roof fighting, so they possibly are breeding. Any solution please
If you are unsure whether there are babies in your house then you shouldn't do anything to prevent the mom from getting to them or cause her to not come back (like a one way door, chemicals, etc).

So your first step is to call your local animal control office and see if this is the time of year they have their young. If not then you probably are safe to kick them out. Animal control will probably have recommendations as well, and will know the local laws.

Of course you can always just hire a professional and make it someone else's problem.
I assume you want them to leave. All raccoons, skunks %26amp; animals dislike MOTHBALLS. The vapours from the mothballs bugger up their sensitive noses so they just leave. Skunks %26amp; raccoons dug a hole under our building so I tossed four or five mothballs in there %26amp; they left. They came back six months later so I did it again %26amp; they left for good. Got the idea from my Grandma, they used to put mothballs under the chicken coup to keep skunks %26amp; raccoons from living there.
Best to call local Wildlife devission. Not sure but I think they belong to the endangered specie list. I would not recommend an company to take them out. Just call local Wildlife. And they will remove them for free.

  • My cat was attacked by a racoon. His foot is bloody, other puncture wounds on nose, tummy, tail. It is bad?

He is not eating or drinking anymore. He drank some tuna juice this morning and has peed (no blood) in the litter box. He does not feel good. I need suggestions for things I can do at home. I may have to go out of town if I can get a vet from another town to respond. My cat is making a terrible meowing sound and the vet on has not responded in about 2 hours. My cat was attacked by a racoon. His foot is bloody, other puncture wounds on nose, tummy, tail. It is bad?
First and foremost question: IS HE CURRENT IN HIS RABIES VACCINATION???

If he is, no need to worry big time. Yes, he still needs to be seen by a vet, in a timely manner.

If he is not current in his rabies vaccinations, then BIG TIME WORRY, yes! You need to take him to the vet YESTERDAY!!!That does not mean he's been infected, but there is a chance, because you don't know if the racoon who bit him had rabies.

So please take him to the nearest vet NOW!My cat was attacked by a racoon. His foot is bloody, other puncture wounds on nose, tummy, tail. It is bad?
Infections can set in fairly quickly. Your cat needs to see an emergency vet, to get antibiotic shots or vaccine updates asap and pain medication right away, don't let him sit around and suffer. We should treat our animals the same as our children where medical issues are concerned...you would not want to be made to lie around and suffer, you would want to go to the ER right away wouldn't you?
Obviously, he needs emergency vet care. If you have a vet, take the cat to him, don't wait for a call back. Raccoons often kill cats in my area - they are cute, but vicious fighters. Your cat is bad off and may have internal injuries. Get to the emergency clinic now!
He's obviously in a lot of pain. Raccoons don't just attack. They usually run unless they have rabies. Call the authorities and report this now. That raccoon needs to be caught and tested.

    TX Mom

WHy in heavens name would an owner not take the poor cat to get treatment IMMEDIATELY is it bad well yes if what you have described is true for goodness sake get it to a vet NOW!!!
Take him to the vet ASAP..

Racoons sometimes have Rabies and other

diseases that can be passed on to dogs %26amp; cats.

You might give him some antibiotics.
Well it is bad uh don't touch it and try to get pet medication a cream to put on the cuts and yes go to another vet!
YES, take him to the vet right now - he may need stitches and more importiantly RABBIES!!!
If it doesn't eat it will starve. Take it to the vet right away! This sounds really serious.
It sounds bad enough that I would take him/her to the vet
As I said before, it's pretty much impossible to evaluate the severity of his wounds and treat them from home. I stand by my previous suggestions, which are copied and pasted below. Spamming this forum with the same question is not likely to yield you a home remedy for your cat.

I read your other question. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done at home to help him with the puncture wounds. Given that he is seemingly in pain, I would just continue to be persistent in trying to get in touch with the vet if I were you. Is there another vet in the general area? I know it would be a pain, but you may have to travel to have him seen. I had to drive about 50 miles one day to get an emergency handled, but it was well worth it for my cat to receive care. I think it's imperative that he receive treatment because based on your description in your last question, he is seemingly injured pretty badly. That he has stopped eating and drinking is not a good sign, and there could be some internal injuries that you're not seeing. I wish I could offer more suggestions, but there are just some things we can't take care of at home. Do call around to other vets and be a pest until someone responds to you. Sometimes the squeaky wheel really does get the grease. Call different vets about every half hour until you hear from someone, or look for an emergency clinic that may be in a surrounding city. In a worst case scenario, you could take him to a shelter to see if they can assist you. It's not what one would traditionally do, but at least they'll have someone on staff who might be able to help. I'm not suggesting that you leave him there, just see if they can help.

Can racoon dogs walk along electricity wires?

Can racoon dogs climb that high?

I presume that if they only walk on one wire and dont touch the other one they will not complete the circut and burst into flames!!!Can racoon dogs walk along electricity wires?
Any organism can walk, swing, or whatever along electric cables, as long as they don't touch the ground or another cable. Can racoon dogs walk along electricity wires?
    raccoon dogs?

if the animal is not heavy it can walk on wires as long as it does not touch the ground or get wet (rain/ect)
No such thing as a raccoon dog. Dogs cant, not even small ones, they don't have prehensile paws.

Raccoons can, especially young ones, or if the wires are thick.

Birds are not the only animal that walk power and telephone lines. Squirrels do it all the time. Cats try sometimes, they usually get electrocuted.
raccoon dogs are one of the few canines that are able to climb trees, but I do not believe they can walk a power line. They would have no way to hold themselves on the wire. They can not grasp with their paws. It is only the claws which are curved and pointed which allow them to climb at all.

And Jim there most certainly IS a raccoon dog. It is native to Japan and parts of Asia. It was introduced to some other areas as well and became a bit of a pest species which is why Missouri does not allow importation into this state.
    no only birds can

Can you wash a coat that has a racoon collar around the hood?

unless you made it, its real old, or very exotic coat its not real coon .

and if it is take it too a pro.Can you wash a coat that has a racoon collar around the hood?
If you take the raccoon off the coat you can wash it. Usually it is just the fur attached to a collar and should be able to remove it easily.

Can a racoon, kill a dog?

Can a racoon, kill a dog....ive always been told they could....is this true? Im sure it depends on what type of dog, but well say just an avg size mutt...Can a racoon, kill a dog?
It's certainly possible. If nothing else, it could severely injure a dog.

I wouldn't want any of my dogs (labs) coming into contact with a raccoon at all.Can a racoon, kill a dog?
it depends on the size or racoons could give rabies i think the dog would win tho
a raccoon could absolutely kill a dog, those things are tough as hell! If the raccoon is obviously outmatched and still fights the dog it has rabies and that would probably get the dog killed...there is also infection from a bite you didn't think was that bad...a raccoon could def kill a dog....

then again life is fragile and lol i have heard of dogs being killed by plants and dogs getting killed by pillows...and raisins...grapes either way a dog vs. a raccoon will not be a fun fight because even if the dog walks away he will still have a chance of rabies and infection!
its really true if the dog going harm them they will attacked other animal and even might killed it or harm it .
On land they can hold their own against an average sized dog. They could kill a smaller dog, and may be killed by a larger dog. In the water, the raccoon usually wins. They get on the dogs head, and hold them underwater until they drown.
    It is possible
well to be honest with you it depends on the size of the

raccoon and the size of the dog if it is a small dog then yes it could! kill the dog , but if it is like a rottweiler then no it could not kind the dog .
Yes, they can. Those claws are very sharp and long and can dig down to a major vein causing the dog to bleed to death. Generally, they are not going to come out on top with a dog larger than they are.
i agree with Smile. They are very tough and annoying. I own horses and dogs so i have to make sure each feed container is sealed up and in the area where the live this drought has hurt everything and the coons are attacking harder. They can kill a dog in two ways,

    1. their meaness

    2. diseases, they carry quite a few
Yes, expecially it feels it needs to defend itself. They don't normall attack for no reason unless it may have rabies. If you think it actually attacted the dog I would have the dog tested, yes I know even if it is dead it might be good to know.
Of course, but I'd be more concerned about rabies.
Raccoons are very viscose, but I think a dog would win because a dog stands higher off the ground and is probably more agile.

All of the Avon eyeliners. I have better luck with the pencil type,(I use the self sharpening ones). I can't seem to get the hang of liquid eyeliners. My mom uses liquid and has used the Avon Liquid eyeliner and does fine with it. All Avon ones wash off well-and they have lots of colors to choose from.Does anyone have any suggestions for eyeliners that wash off easily with out giving the racoon look?
Colour Trend eyeliners from Avon are good and easy to wash off too.
its not about the eyeliner! Its about what you use to take it off. I suggest something by clinique so its gentle. or those face scrub clothes, that the best way to get the eye stuff off and also clean your face at the same time. good luck!
Its not the eyeliner, its what you need to take it off. I use a face wash cleanser and then use Almay make up remover and I can get every type of eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow and lip color off.
i wouldn't worry about the eyeliner, use any kind you like. but when it comes to taking it off you don't have to pay more then about 1.50. so what you do is buy a bottle of baby oil. then squeeze a dime amount on a tissue of TP. all you have to do is wipe your make up off with the wet tissue. i promise, it works better than any expensive make up remover!

hope this helps! ( i know it will)

    -horseygirl
First and foremost baby oil is NOT good for your eyes. It contains mineral oil AND perfumes (which is why it smells so nice). Perfumes will sting the eyes and the mineral oil can cause your eyelashes to break.

One of the best eyeliners you can use will only cost you a minute of your time and a bit of practice, not to mention it washes off with plain soap and water with NO residue.

Use a fine paintbrush, size OO (called a fine liner brush) and run it under cool tap water. place a few drops of water into your favorite regular powdered eyeshadow to make a bit of a paste. Now you simply paint a very fine line as close to the lashes as possible, starting from the center of the eye to the outside corner. This method is very effective because not only does it allow you to have MANY shades of eyeliner, but give it a minute to dry and it becomes a powder again, easily blended with a small brush for that smokey eye look, or removed altogether with a Q-tip (if you make a mistake).

Hope this helps....experiment and have some fun with it

  • What could you use around the house to make the best paper machete racoon.?

i have a book report to in english that envolves doing a project about my book it all envolves me reading a book called Rascal and it is about a boy during the second war war going hunting in the woods and then he comes across a racoons nest and the baby racoon gets left and then the boy named sterling has to take in in for about 2 and a half years then he lets the racoon named rascal go to his wild home in the woods far away from his house the main character is the racoon and that is why i need som suggestions to get the shape of the racoon

    any pictures would help!

p.s. thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!What could you use around the house to make the best paper machete racoon.?
goodWhat could you use around the house to make the best paper machete racoon.?
I'm sure you can find pictures on the web. Search: ';pictures of racoons'; or similar. Any paper will do. Experiment with various thicknesses. Newspaper, [stay away from colored ads.] and paper bags from the grocery stores is great. Remember that when the paper is thick, it will take longer to dry.

You may try to make the body form from papertowel tubes or roll up that newspaper into tubes, bend them and tape them into shape. You could use wadded paper to add volume to the stomach part and cover it gently with your mache. The top layer should be a white or light colored paper so the paint will be clear and bright. Even though you have pictures, draw a portion of the body to have an example to use for that part you need. If you need to connect a head to the neck, use tape gently and cover that well. Have fun!

please help me!Can a cat die from a racoon bite?
If the racoon has rabies.........yes, potentially your cat could die. Also, you need to worry about infection from the bite. I'd call your vet and they could tell you better what to do.

i got a dog and i kinda traind it and i can not get him to bark at a coon in a tree.I cant get my dog to tree a racoon?
They do that best in packs. Do you have a friend or someone who also hunts? If so, ask if you and your dog can go along with one of their hunts. He will quickly learn to give the alarm. (I'm assuming he is a coonhound).I cant get my dog to tree a racoon?
The dog is being very smart. A cornered raccoon can be a dangerous adversary. Are you a coon hunter? Is your dog from a line of coon hunters. If the answers to these questions are no then I would suggest that you find something else to teach him!

    ~Tyed~
Train him with another trained dog. The other dog teaches him. You train in pairs not alone.

I just went out to my garage to smoke, and their was a racoon in my trash can.?

Should I shoot it?I just went out to my garage to smoke, and their was a racoon in my trash can.?
No - in some areas that is illegal. Just scare it away, and if this is a recurring problem, use a humane trap to catch it and then call your animal control officer to see what should be done.I just went out to my garage to smoke, and their was a racoon in my trash can.?
no, call animal control, I caught a raccoon chewing on our christmas lights last year, it is too bad they are so mean, cause they are so cute
No and you shouldn't shoot at a raccoon either.
no leave it alone because it will rot quick and that is a hard smell to get out
No you shouldn't shoot it...cover your trash properly and if you have to put a live trap out and relocate him or her
Yes. Even if it's an animal, being on ur property w/out permission is trespassing, home invasion, and breaking and entering. But a more humane way is to call ur local animal control.
you shouldn't be smoking in your garage it's dangerous if there is gasoline, or any other type of thing with fumes.

shooting the raccoon would depend on where you live, in the country, maybe, you still might want to call animal control

in town ,no, call animal control and they should trap it
Leave it be. Take your trash in and it won't rummage around in there. If you take away the trash, you'll take away the racoon.
Quit smoking so you won't be sent to the garage and be confronted with the ';wild beast';.
What the heck for? Are you serious? Where do you live? Are you related to either Dick Cheney or Charlton Heston?

By the way, have you noticed that racoons have great table manners?
no leave it alone its gotta eat to.
    Take them to Wendys!
Well, screaming hysterically and running away always seems to help me!!! :)
Yah, it's okay with me. I hope the neighbors don't call the cops. Be careful, because that little bandit might be rabid.
poke him with a stick! that will teach him

    [ insert sinister laughter here _____________ ]
no that is rude, at least offer the racoon a smoke b4 u blow his brains out
    no RUN
No, why would you want to shoot it. He'll leave on his own.
don't corner him - they have real long claws and will bite you. Open the garage door, and close it again after he leaves. you might get him to leave sooner by making noise, but DON'T stand between the racoon and the door.
um not just like try to prevent them from coming from now on, but don't get too close, they ATTACK!
Only if you are from Kentucky and you are gonna eat it. How about calling animal control in your city/county to come and set a trap and remove the critter? Either that or quit smoking so you don't see the pesky varmit in your garbage can!
No, but if it is acting weird(foaming at mouth, agggressive, or the opposite-unusually approachable or docile appearing-which is not normal), you may want to call animal control.

No, it might be smudge a lil bit but it's not gonna be like liquid. When you use pencil eyeliners would you get racoon eyes when you wash it off like you do with liquid eyeliner?
I know what you mean. The liquid tend to stick around longer. Especially between the eyelashes. Pencil eyeliners do leave somewhat of a residue depending on the brand.

I'd suggest a cream eyeliner though. Like loreal's HIP cream pots. Use a thin liner/pencil brush.

It just glides on so much easier and washes off just as easy.

Umm a mommy raccoon. I hope you can run fast. Why would you want to take a wild animal? I do believe it is illegal. They belong in the wild.
Do check with the state to be sure having one is not illegal. Then if is is ok to have one, check with your local pet store for the exotic pet shows that come through nearby cities. They carry a lot of types of animals in these...tiger cubs, alligators etc. Maybe they will have them. If you dont find anything, email me and I may know someone who would at least know where to look. Read up on them beforehand to be sure you want one. They are rascals! Also, dont forget that they need to be taken to the vet for shots etc. the same as all pets do, so it is very important that it is legal to own one in your state.

    A mommy racoon.
Raccoons are wild animals and they do not make good pets. In most states, (check with your state DOA) they are illegal to keep as pets. Also, raccoons commonly are carriers of rabies.

I would guess you get a bay racoon form a pregnant racoon? Is that right?

Although it seems like a good thing to do because they are so cute it is illegal to keep a wild animal as a pet,in most states. When raccoons get older they can be quite strong and bite (wild animal) and do not make good pets!

Whats the best way to kill a racoon?
    gun
It depends on the circumstances. Some methods that people use may seem a little cruel. If the animal is in a trap, some people shoot it or ';club'; it. Some bodygripping traps or snares can also kill the racoon on their own. I wouldn't recommend a shotgun, simply because you're going to have a much larger mess. If using a live trap to remove the racoon is out of the question and you simply want to kill it, I use a .22 rifle. You also may want to consider local and state regulations.

Do you really get ';racoon eyes'; if you wear goggles when you tan?

I never went tanning before but I was going to try it since its to dark to get a tan around this time of year. Just didn't want it to look stupidDo you really get ';racoon eyes'; if you wear goggles when you tan?
The goggles are meant to protect your eyes from the tanning lights, so yes, where ever the goggles are, the tanning lights won't be able to tan. The more you tan the bigger the difference. Do you really get ';racoon eyes'; if you wear goggles when you tan?
I work at a tanning salon. My honest suggestion is to wear your eye protection 90 percent of the time. Take it off every once and a while to tan the white spots, but never not use it at all it is horrible for your eyesight. Going without the goggles will be ok about once a week at most.
You can get reverse raccoon eyes... Especially if you get VERY tan (as in, drastically different than your natural skin tone).
of course! no matter what skin tone you have i have a friend who is black and always wears sunglasses and he has coon eyes and stripes from the glasses we kid him all the time

it would be risky for either butterflyfish. in the wild they may pick at, or around, inverts. the raccoon will also nip at corals. they're both better really in fish-only tanks, and keeping the two together could prove risky also.

edit: what size is your tank? some tangs are generally herbivorous, but need very large tanks (75-100 gallons plus).

What do Racoon Butterflyfish like to eat?

The Racoon Butterflyfish is considered a moderately hard fish to keep, but not impossible!

It likes to get part of its nutrition from feeding on the small life forms found on live rock. It is especially fond of small fan worms. They will also usually take smallish meaty foods such as frozen brine shrimp or blood worms and sometimes mysid shrimp. Keep in mind that they have very small mouths and will usually not attempt to eat the larger foods that are offered. Getting them to feed on a nutritionally balanced diet is often the most difficult part of being successful with this fish. Stubborn fish may accept live foods or opened clams. Mandarins.

I have had success feeding thawed frozen mysis shrimp and brine shrimp. They rarely will eat flake or pelleted foods. They will only thrive in a reef tank with live rock as well. What do Racoon Butterflyfish like to eat?

    OHK.

Well first if your hair is dark(black, brown, dark blonde) you have to bleach the parts you want to put the stripes/spots in. Then you get the dye you chose and follow the instructions as you were doing a full head dye but just for the parts you bleached.

If its too hard you can always get a hairdresser to do it. Not everyone can work this headstyle so ask your salon if this will suite you or not. try and get a salon which specialises in coloring.

    Hope I helped!

You can also use a mixture of 2 Tablespoons Tabasco sauce per quart of water or plain ammonia to pour over the trash can to discourage raccoons from dining on your trash. I have looked on the internet and they are very rare - I have been feeding him ever night. I would like to get him in a better place as he appears deaf and blind. And wondered because they are so rare if I could maybe make some money off of him? I have awesome up close pictures of him.I have an Albino Racoon. Can I make money from him?
They're really not all that rare, but a zoo might be willing to accept him. Anyone that would pay you for him as a display animal is not likely to take good care of him. I would also be very careful - most albino animals are not deaf or blind. This raccoon may be ill for other reasons, including rabies. It is not a good idea to feed it.I have an Albino Racoon. Can I make money from him?
No. Do not try to make money off of a poor blind and deaf creature because he was rare. What if you were an albino and people wanted to make money off of you? You should go to a NON-PROFIT shelter for wild animals and leave him there. If they don't take him give him to an animal hospital %26amp; they must take him according to rules!
It sounds like it's a wild raccoon... No you won't really be able to make any money off of it. There are people who purposely breed raccoons that produce albinos so they're not that hard to find.

Can you tell the difference between a racoon and a ferret?

Raccoons are Procyonids, wild animals and somewhat large, about the size of a large cat and bigger. With winter weight 2 I worked with decades ago weighed 15 pounds and 25 pounds (the second being unusually fat even for winter). Their faces are wide, their bodies bulky. They climb trees well. Their tails are ringed. Their walk has a bit of a waddle to it. They are marvelous at using their hands to manipulate objects.

Ferrets are much smaller, usually in the 2 to 3 pound range, so quite dramatically smaller than a raccoon. Pet ferrets are domestic animals and have been domesticated for perhaps 2,500 years. They are mustelids -- relatives of weasels and otters. They come in a range of markings, some with partial masks. (There is a wild cousin in the U.S., the Black Footed Ferret. In Europe there are closer relations who are wild: the European Polecat and the Steepe Polecat). They are gracile (sleek) and often move with the back curved up.

Yes. A raccoon has a very easily recognizable feature, his black mask around his eyes. Also, the raccoon has darker bands of color on his tail than the ferret. Ferrets also tend to be skinnier and smaller than raccoons. Can you tell the difference between a racoon and a ferret?
Well they are two very distinct different animals.

Racoons have the ';bandit look'; around the eyes like they are wearing a mask... with a ringed tail...much larger animals than ferrets

Ferrets are smaller / longer .
Yes, you can. Racoons are bigger and they have circles around their eyes. Ferrets are long and low to the ground.

Yes they can bite - they can carry rabies, so if bitten, you'd want to get checked out. Of the 6,844 documented rabies cases reported in the United States in 2004, 37.5% were in raccoons.

    As far as size -

An adult weight varies with habitat and range and can range from 3鈥?6 kg (6.6鈥?5 lb) and measure 60鈥?0 cm (24鈥?6 in) along the body, minus the 25 cm-10 in tail.I got some questions can a racoon bite and do how big they get and stuff just tell me stuff about racoons?
Stuff about raccoons,-- The raccoon is a cousin of the bear, so let's look at the raccon as a small bear as far as appetite, and biting,( just look at its teeth) it can climb and dig and bite and fight like any bear can. It is also nocturnal and kind of semi hibernates durin the winter months however if the temps are mild during the winter they will come out for some fresh air. The males can get huge, so can the females acutally. They can aslo have like 6 or more babies in one litter. then they mate again in one season and can probably have as many as 18 or 20 babies in one summer. The will eat just about anything, meat, fish, veggies, dog food, cat food, even the cat if the cat sticks around, they eat birds and their eggs, rats, mice rabbits, corn, you name it. There are known to eat on a carcass and if there is some left over, will come back the next night to finish it off. They are very crafty critters, can figure out a trap or how to get into the garbage that you thought was racoon proof.I got some questions can a racoon bite and do how big they get and stuff just tell me stuff about racoons?
Raccoons can weigh 50+lbs. They are wild animals and should be treated as such. These are NOT house pets. Raccoons are natural carriers of rabies and can not be vaccinated for them. Therefore in most states, it is illegal to keep them in captivity without a permit. Raccoons are very interesting critters though. The reason they ';wash their food'; is to get it moist so they can swallow. Raccoons have no salivary glands. Raccoons are NOT rodents or in that family. They are in the bear family and are pretty intelligent.
Yes they bite, but you don't want to get bit. They have Rabbies sometime. They really get big and fat. About three times the size of a basketball. They also can be nasty. I shot one yesterday because it was trying to get one of the Kittens. My dogs did the rest. They are also very ugly when they are grown up. Nothing like the cartoons.
They can really bite. They can kill a dog.If you raise one from a baby they will usually get mean when they grow up. They can get to over 40 lbs. It's best to just stay away from them. If you see one out in the daytime don't go near it, there's a good chance it will have rabies.
yes they can bite and are also known carries of rabbies, they can weigh between 6-35 pounds, adn they love to dig in trash
awwww, hey are so cute! but they are very vicious. bites can take chunks of flesh out and they're growling scares the hell outta me! lol. but yeah they like to eat about anything.
Raccoons bite and they have rabies or some other type of disease half the time. I feed them but don't let them get too close. Yes, they get big.
yes a racoon can bite and their like the size of a small dog(beagel..i think)

My friends puppies ate a racoon that also was thought to have bitten one of the dogs what should she do?

take it to the vet. she could get rabies or a bad infection. better check to be safe.My friends puppies ate a racoon that also was thought to have bitten one of the dogs what should she do?
Take the raccoon to your vet and have it tested for rabies and have your dogs examined. if you can get to the vet now store whats left of the raccoon in a cooler and get it in tomorrow. Most labs that do rabies testing are open on the weekend. You don't want to have to do rabies testing on your dog.

Try to find the head, the tail won't work. Regardless talk to your vet tomorrow and find out what you should do - different areas have different procedures for dealing with possible rabies exposures. My friends puppies ate a racoon that also was thought to have bitten one of the dogs what should she do?
    ';Do';?

Nothing but don't feed as much tonight.

I couldn't even count how many coon my dogs have taken.
Quarantine the dog away from people and animals and contact your vet and the local dog warden.
Is there anything left of the raccoon? Can the head be found, and tested for rabies?
Take the dog to the vet, racoons carry rabies!

How Do I dye my extensions so theyre like racoon tails?

bleach the entire extension (the part that you want the coontails to appear on)

then using pieces of masking tape, tape sections of the stip of bleached hair, evenly spaced apart.

This will make the stripes in your hair.

Then using any color you like dye the rest of the extension, the part that doesn't have tape covereing it up.

hope that helped! How Do I dye my extensions so theyre like racoon tails?
What you do is you get the main colour that you'd like and then get some masking tape. Then put the masking tape in alternate stripesso that the dye does not run into the colour of the original hir extension then on the exposed parts dye it the desired color, leave the colour to take and then voila :DHow Do I dye my extensions so theyre like racoon tails?

How about trying wire, can they chew through it, too?My birdfeeder rope keeps breaking from Racoon chewing it. What kind of rope should I use?
Try metal cable instead, or a chain.
    Chain
You could put that flexible metal stuff over it that they run wiring though in construction. You could even paint it if you wanted to.

eh- think chain was a better answer.
Go to the fishing section at your local sporting goods store. You are looking for stainless steel leader wire, and the lead crimps to go with it. It will last forever, and even hurricane Katrina couldn't break it.
Use a chain or some kind of metal coil. Raccoons are cute, but they get into everything here.

Last night i shot a racoon in my backyard with an airsoft and i have been worrying that i might have killedit?

does anyone know if an airsoft gun can kill a racoon the gun was only about 200 fps and the racoon seemed to just walk away like he didnt care.Last night i shot a racoon in my backyard with an airsoft and i have been worrying that i might have killedit?
Is it an airsoft gun you wouldn't mind being shot with wearing heavier clothing? If it wouldn't break your skin, then it probably wouldn't puncture a raccoons skin either. If anything, it probably just stung a bit.

The only concern I can think of with an airsoft gun where you could kill an animal is if you hit it in the eye..

In future, I'd just avoid unnecessarily pestering the wildlife.. Last night i shot a racoon in my backyard with an airsoft and i have been worrying that i might have killedit?
To be honest, it depends on how far away you were when you shot it. I highly doubt you killed it. But you could have injured it and according to Natural Selection where the weak cannot survive, I would say yes. You probably did kill it. Not directly. I think shooting animals like that is wrong regardless of what is used to do it. If you are so worried about if you killed it or not, then why did you do it in the first place? I'm not going all PETA on you, just confused =P
Well it can't feel good! And if your so concerned about hurting the poor little critter why would you shoot it with anything in the first place?! There are much nicer, and less harmful way's to get rid of a pest, if that's in fact your reasoning for doing such a thing!!!
stop shooting animals - its cruel - If they had guns as well it would be fair - dont fret about the coon now you cant really reverse what happned - just stop shootinganimals evn if you think it won't kill the animal
not a chance you killed it and shame on everyone else for putting down hunting its great!!!!!
I hate them, they are rabid at times.you didn't kill him

  • Well how do i get rid of a racoon in the wall?

find out where it is cut a small hole and make a nuese //?? youll have to lasso it if its big and pull it out and put it in a waste basket covered by a blanket now once this is done ask a husband or neighbor to takethe rope off you can tie him up to take the not off first then he an free himself if you do it rightWell how do i get rid of a racoon in the wall?
y would u want to get rid of a racoon!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!/THEY ROCK KEEP IT AS A PET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well how do i get rid of a racoon in the wall?
    Right up my alley.

Presuming you know it to be a raccoon, it has to have an entry in your attic or soffit or vent or in your footings.

During warm enough weather, that critter will go out to eat at dark. Try leaving cat food out to entice it away.

The hole needs to be patched with solid material to prevent reentry. I mean like a good piece of wood screwed into the studs. You can always go back and put something decent up later.

Coons will urinate in that warm hole in the wall ruining your drywall.

If you have any kind of access to that wall (wall receptacle, light plate) you can remove that and see how well the wall is insulated. If pretty hollow, you can use any type of annoying spray like vinegar or ammonia or even bug spray to drive it out providing the stuff does not do further damage to the drywall and watch your electrical runs.

This is the time of year that a female would be holing up to have babies.

    OR

You can set a live trap. It is a spring device that is baited.

Coons are very smart. The trap has to be much bigger than they are for them to enter. Bait with peanut butter or sardines or cat food or tuna.

If you catch the critter, put a snap hook or wire to keep the door hooked closed. Coons can open about anything.

The animal needs to be moved MILES away and released or disposed of. Some states do not allow releasing because of the risk of transferring rabies. Check your local wildlife laws.

    OR

There are critter removal agencies that will do this for a fee.

You would be better off buying or renting your own trap and doing it yourself. Probably cheaper.

Warning: coons are very scrappy. Stay away from teeth.

    Retired Conservation Officer

I read some of the posts here. No animal control agency (like humane society) that I know if will handle coons. You have to pay an outside agency that is licensed for removal with the state.
you can use a smoker..... just smoke but i'm not sure how healthy that would be for the walls......

But i put really loud speakers against the walls when the squrriles come and they leave....they don't like loud noises and wont nest were there uncomfortable.... either way you can always call animal control....
YOU don't. You need to call animal control. You have no idea if that racoon is a mother, nursing her young, which could make her VERY aggressive. She could be injured and you don't know how to keep her and you safe. Then, what if it's rabid!? Call animal control. They removed a opossum from our attic when she got up there with her 4 babies. We'd never knew she had babes, and they'd die without her.
do what Slyder said but forget the basket just get some shot that doesn't damage houses, there's some at Fleet Farm if you have one (if not then anywhere they sell ammo), my cousin had to use it when there was a coon on the rafter in the barn, It works really good. Then just blast him in the hole and you fix your problem

Whats the best way to get rid of a young racoon thats hang around my house at night?

im having problems with a raccoon that opens my trash cans at night and scatters trash, ive tryed to run it off but it wont take a hint, im not going to hurt it but it is a pest,Whats the best way to get rid of a young racoon thats hang around my house at night?
You may want to keep your garbage cans in the garage or somewhere else temporarily, to cut off what the raccoon views as an easy food source. Also, check the yellow page listings in your area for Urban Animal control. There are companies who will catch the animal %26amp; then release it into the wild, far from civilization, so it can go back to being a raccoon. If no such companies operate in your area, you could attempt to catch the animal yourself, although I don't advise it. Raccoons can be VERY vicious when they feel threatened. They have also been known to carry rabies. Be Careful, and good luck!Whats the best way to get rid of a young racoon thats hang around my house at night?
I had problems with a raccoon getting into my goldfish pond and tearing it up while trying to get the fish......The only way you will get rid of this pest, is to put some dogfood in a large livetrap, catch the critter, and then take him for a really long drive and drop him off. That took care of my raccoon problem.

I didn't even have to purchase the trap. A conservation officer brought the trap and the bait, out to my place and left it for me to use. Cool, huh?

The first night I caught a large rat. The second night, I caught the raccoon. I just left him in the livetrap, placed him into the trunk of the car, drove to the other side of the lake, opened the trunk, lifted the door of the trap.....that critter took one 20-foot leap from the trap and ran so fast I could barely see him.

(I feel I should add: When I bent down to hose out the plastic-cased livetrap, so I could return it clean, I about lost my cookies......The smell that radiated from that trap was horrible. Don't know if the raccoon got sprayed by a skunk or what. I just know it was nasty!)

    Good luck!
If you have a BB-gun you can shoot it. BB-Guns will sting it, but definitely not penetrate the skin or hurt it. Once it gets hit, it'll probably not think thats a good place to go anymore.

When you shoot it, just don't use full power, and it wont penetrate the skin.....it'll just give it a nice welt that will get your point across.
Secure the lids of your trash cans so the raccoon can't get into them. If he/she can't find food it'll move on.
go to redneck.com order up some coonhunters and dogs. its live and well and davy crocket hats still sell, 3-6 bucks a hide i heard

Has anyone had a racoon as a pet?

Is it really true that they can turn destructive in the house?Has anyone had a racoon as a pet?
Yes, over the years my family and I have probably rehabilitated a dozen or more young raccoons.

Males tend to become very territorial and aggressive as they get older, and neither sex make a good inside pet, as they are not domesticated. They have no reason to use a litter box or defecate outside, and providing health care is difficult and costly. They are also susceptible to many illnesses, like rabies, that they cannot be vaccinated for. If you have dogs, cats or other household pets, it's really not worth the risk to the rest of your household.

If you are interested in keeping one, or helping rehabilitated ones that are found too young to care for themselves and the released back into the wild, contact your Dept of Natural Resources. They will be able to put you in contact with someone that has the answers!Has anyone had a racoon as a pet?
Yes, raccoons are wild animals. Just because you get them as newborns they are still wild and have the wild instinct.I work for a vet who helps some of the wildlife rehabilitators in the area who have raccoons and most don't try to make pets out of them. they rehab them and set them free
I had a Coatimundi and yes they can be but they are fun too!
No but they look like my cat. So maybe yes!
When I was a kid, my dad caught a baby raccoon for me right out of his nest (I would never do that today). He wasn't a small baby or anything...he was probably about ready to leave anyway. We kept him outside and fed him from afar because he was extremely hostile and wild. We kept him for a couple weeks and let him go. After that, he would come back to the house and get within about 20 feet of us. We would put out food for him and he would eat it but he never became what I would call tame. I have heard that even if you could tame one, once they reach sexual maturity they get a little unruly. Keeping a wild animal is really not a good idea.
Um no, just as a hat :-)
Very much true. I got a female that was 6 weeks old. She was adorable. Then she started climbing on the curtains, tearing the furniture and even ate my retainer. When she turned about a year, she started biting and didn't like being held. She no longer slept with me because I never knew when she was going to bite. We ended up having to cage her until we could figure out what else to do. We eventually turned her over to the wildlife people to train her to become wild. Even though we had a lot of fun with her the 1st year, I would never get another pet that was meant to be wild. Now that I'm grown it just seems like it was cruel. We bought her at a petstore and didn't give it a second thought. I think they are illegal to sell or purchase in our area now. At least I hope it is. Rosie was much happier when we set her free, I'm sure of it.
Yes I have had many. My kids and I now rehab young ones and return them to the wild as you can NEVER tame these animals. Once they hit ';teenage'; status they get aggressive and big quick. The babies are great very lovable. When they get big though watch out they can get in anywhere and destroy EVERYTHING. Anything shiny or valuable(they know) you might as well kiss goodbye unless you can find the hiding spot but then be prepared for a fight to get it back. As with all wild animals if you haven't had ant training or experience leave it alone more often than not we do more harm than good. Good luck!!!!
Yes. Yes again. It is all depending on how old they are when you get them.... We had MANY when I was growing up.
When I was a kid we had one in a cage on our farm. Meanest animal I have ever met.
yeah we had a baby. he got out of his cage and managed to get out of the house. We never found him even after we moved. They are wild animals and they want to be outside.

    Can a cat & a racoon crossbreed?

Any possibility? I know someone who says their cat had racoon in it. I have to admit, it looked like it.Can a cat %26amp; a racoon crossbreed?
Nope it is not possible. Are you maybe thinking about that fable that Maine Coon cats are a cross between racoons and cats? It is not so. The Maine Coon cat got his name by having a bushy tail like a racoon, and the markings ( mask) on their face resembling a raccoon. They are actually a mix of domestic Long and short hair cats. Can a cat %26amp; a racoon crossbreed?
Well King its funny that you would bring this up cause i heard that cat tastes so much like racoon that before you can sell a coon in some areas you must keep 1 leg on it as to prove it indeed is coon rather than cat, With that in mind i could only surmise that it would be possible,i mean they taste the same so i guess there is not much difference!!!
No. There is a cat called a Maine Coone, but it's not a cross breed.

    They cannot breed.
Are you trying to breed a catoon.

Maybe you should contact the Catoon Network.

    ROTFLMAO
Well I know what a coonbone is..but you will have to look that one up yourself!!!
    sure............
of course...haven't you ever heard of cacoon ?
Yes these are the desendents of the Mainecoon. Large furry cats...
no I don't think so it couled be possibl I think
wat wuz it called a cracoon
Yea they did it on the discovery chanle
Only if the racoon buys the cat a drink first.
No, that impossible. There is a reason why, but I cant think of it right now. And I have a question for you. Did you by any chance read a Sly Cooper fan fic by Kit_Karamak on fanfiction.net, thus leading you to ask this question?

How do I obtain a license to own a racoon in NJ?

Contact your local Department of Fish and Game.

If New Jersey is anything like The People's Demokratik Republik of Kalivornia they may not allow you to own a ';Wild Animal';.

Also there is something you should know about Raccoons. They are not the fuzzy cute little creatures that you may believe they are. When they grow up, regardless of how much human contact you may give them they will gain a very nasty temper. Its just the way the animal is made.

I have some friends who had one for a few years and ended up having to get rid of the animal. They have an insatiable curious attitude that cannot be bread out of them nor domesticated away. They are truely a wild animal. They normally will only bond with one person in your household, and respond in an aggressive manner to other folks, in particular visitiors to your home.

You are going to be required to keep the Raccoon in a very heavy cage because they will destroy anything they find fascinating. This includes your furniature. Other pets? Forget it. They will kill them to keep their territory established, regardless of your ';punishments';.

They are highly intelligent and don't forget your discplines, and will do things in retaliation for your penalties.

I would hope you would realize just how big these animals get. When fully grown, you are talking about an animal that weights in excess of 20+ pounds and when standing on their back legs reaches 4+ feet in height.

Last but not least, these animals require a special diet. Its not just going to be cat food, or dog food. These guys are scavengers and eat anything they can get their hands into. This includes your refridgerator. They will eat anything, but not just anything is good for them. And... their diet is what is really at the heart of the matter. You are not doing the animal any service by keeping it as a pet.

Judging from your question, I would say that you may have found a baby raccoon, and intend on keeping it. I would strongly advise you to seek out your local Wild Animal Recovery Center and turn it in to them. By doing this the animal can be returned to their natural habitat and continue to be of service to nature.

    Good Luck!

Have there ever been humans with rabies that act the same a say a racoon in later stages of the disease?

To clearify what information I am looking for: A racoon (or any mammal with rabies) can eventually enter a stage of the disease where the roam around, and attack whatever animal they see in thier daze.

Now, I am curious if there has ever been a human that contracted rabies, and enter the same daze.

I am curious because the only thing I have ever heard a human going through was phobias, irritation, choking, and eventually slipping into a coma and dieing from respiratory failure, but I have never heard of a rabid human attacking humans/animals with superhuman rage and strength. I understand cases of humans with rabies are extremely rare. Although, I wonder if before these kinds of things were recorded with science and logic to explain. I wonder if humans possibly contracted it more often way-back-when, and the way others described thier behavior as ';the walking dead'; or ';zombies';.

Please do not send links that only explain what the disease is, I know what is rabies.Have there ever been humans with rabies that act the same a say a racoon in later stages of the disease?
i'm pretty sure that if a human was infected with rabies, they would be attacking humans with super-raccoon strength and rageHave there ever been humans with rabies that act the same a say a racoon in later stages of the disease?
If you've read ';Old Yeller';, there's a mention I think of someone's family member catching rabies and then having to be tied down, and I *think* smothered to death in a mercy killing. Maybe you can try looking up human rabies in older books, like a university/college library.

I am currently tanning every other day in high pressure stand up beds which work really well, but my face went slightly red last time (on my 2nd visit), and i had slight white marks from the goggles. is it ok not to wear the goggles and also to wear an spf on your face to reduce any redness that might occur? i am fully aware of the risks of tanning, im not looking for a lecture or snide remarks, although its inevitable i suppose. but to those of you who actually answer to be helpful, what do you think?Red face and racoon eyes after tanning?
Go for 2-3 minutes for the first week to get a base.Red face and racoon eyes after tanning?
    You're gonna get cancer!
Wow. You REALLY don't realize how bad this is for you, do you?
well tanning is extremely dangerous and is only going to age you faster. but if you are going to do it at least wear lotion with suncreen in it on your face (well everywhere).

and make sure you wear the goggles or you can get cataracts in your eyes.

oil of olay makes a good one.
i tan every other day and ill be honest I NEVER wear the goggles lol i cant stand those things they make circles around my eyes and i just dont like them. when i first started tanning my face was kind of red but then it turned tan about a week later i did have to take like a day off bc i got so red in my face but also like at my tanning place they have towels that you can put over your face if you dont want to tan your face that day or whatever you can try that, but yes if you would like to use spf on your face you can but try to not tan it everytime until your face gets better!! my face always gets a little red and then it starts to tan.

Legal to kill a racoon/opossum to protect pets?

You cannot open fire within city limits just for some animal in your yard. If too many people did that a stray bullet could hit anybody, even you. Get a wildlife trapper to help with the problem or get some live traps since poison or snap traps could kill your cats instead. Legal to kill a racoon/opossum to protect pets?
Please do not harm opossums or raccoons in any way. These animals are indigenous to the area, and are located all over California. My research shows that opossums, as the only living marsupial in CA (carry young in pouch), are protected. They are shy and completely harmless to any living creature

There's no reason to kill them. I take care of a feral cat colony and the coons, skunks, opossums, etc all come up to eat and drink as well. They all get a long...while the skunk likes to threaten to spray everyone if they don't let him get to the food immediatly lol but no one's actually gotten into fights.

You dont' need to kill them and if you're in city limits, it's likely illegal.
    ILLEGAL and WRONG.

Call the local police department and ask them for a local animal shelter/help place. Tell them you have raccoons and possums and need help getting them away from your house because you fear your animals will get hurt, or you. They will normally respond by coming out and setting traps and then moving them to a safe location for you and them.
Just shoot your gun into your back yard and see if one of your neighbors doesn't call the cops on you and have you arrested, try your local animal control, there is a number for it in the phone book
its illegal to harm any animal weither its domestic or wild. call animal control and they'll relocate the animal for free. you dont want to kill some babies mom. btw indoor cats live longer than outdoor ones.
Instead of killing them, why not call a wildlife worker and transport them to a area like a forest so they don't become pests anymore?
try calling animal control. it sounds wrong and you might even shoot something you weren't aiming for.

Can you get a racoon as a pet?

I was wondering if you could. Like my friends mom is a vet so she could check up on it. So I was wondering can you get a racoon as a pet?Can you get a racoon as a pet?
    Yes you can (:

I have one as a pet

and they need lots of looking after

they are really sweet pets Can you get a racoon as a pet?
Actually it's adviced and illegal to get a pet raccon without a permit. I personally have owned one four about a month. She was rescued however and it was either let her die or take her in. I had her when she a few days old. She was so tiny. I had to bottle feed her every two hours! She grew up fast. I couldn't keep her though. It's to much money for my family. You see when getting a pet raccoon is HAS to be spayed/neutered. If it isn't it will attack/bite you most likely because they are more aggresive. Also when owning one you have to make sure it gets atleast one rabie shot and a check up making sure he/she is all good. Next step would to get your licence to keep the raccoon legally. If you don't you can be fined over $1000 dollars and maybe even more. After getting all that taken care of you also have to think about where and what you are going to feed it. You would have to build a huge pen outside so he/she can climb up and down and explore outside since its their normal habbitate. You would have to make sure it's safe and that there would be a nesting area for him/her to sleep. When feeding it do not feed it ANY and i mean ANY meat. I would feed it fruits and vegies and dog food.

It's a lot of dedication and time because you have to give it attention all the time and they are like kids. You have to love them and care for them as if it was a person. If you don't it will become aggressive.

Maybe just do some volunteer work and care for them when they're younger. Shelthers actually are full with them and aren't taking like anymore raccoons. It's actually smart and helpful to help out and care for them. I would rehab it and then release it back into the wild after it's on solids. That really is just what's best for them. They love their home now, unless it really needs to be rehomed then I'd let them live where they are now.

Check to make sure it isn't illegal in your area. This is a commitment for the life of the animal if you do take one to be a pet, you can't just let it go if you get tired of it, because with you feeding it, it will have lost the wild instincts.

Here is a link for you to read.

Are Racoon Droppings harmful to health?

I live in an apartment and have been feeling sick more than usual. We have had raccoons in the attic and they keep on getting in and im sure there are droppings up there....are they harmful to your health like bird dropping? Are Racoon Droppings harmful to health?
    Yes.

';RACCOON DISEASES: They are a common carrier of rabies, a potentially fatal disease. They also carry canine distemper, which can kill your dog. Their feces may contain raccoon roundworm, the spores of which humans can breath in and become seriously infected by, so it is important to capture raccoons using human habitat.

    HOW DO I GET RID OF RACCOONS? The only real means of getting rid of raccoons is through trapping and removal of the animals. If you've got raccoons in your attic, it's important that the wildlife operator search for a litter of baby raccoons, and remove them by hand before trapping and removing the female raccoon. If it's just raccoons outside causing trouble, they can be trapped and removed, but beware, they'll often dig and grab anything within a few inches of the cage trap. There are also some lethal raccoon traps, but they're not often used or even legal in all states.';

Be sure you contact a Nuisance Wildlife Control Professional to remove the coons, and do not attempt to do this yourself. Then, get the feces cleaned out of the attic. Are Racoon Droppings harmful to health?

How do i get rid of racoon's in my home attic?

Double the rent. They're cheap lil buggers. How do i get rid of racoon's in my home attic?
My sister had this same problem. She bought a trap especially for this type of animal and put it outside her house. It traps them alive and they cannot get out once they go in it. They will come out of the attic at night and go back in about daylight in the morning. She put bread or crackers in the trap and caught them one at a time and took them to the game reserve in our town and let them go. If you know someone with a farm, you might ask if you could let them go there also. Hope this helps. How do i get rid of racoon's in my home attic?
Shoot it it might get blood everywhere but hey its dead! or put a humane animal catcher cage there
First, figure out how they're getting in and out. They'll definitely have to go outside, so there will be an opening somewhere that they're using. It's often a vent or other access point that's intended for humans.

Once you have that identified, sprinkle flour around the entry area. If you do this in the daytime, they'll leave and come back overnight, and the next day, you should be able to confirm how many there are, by the number of paw prints going in and out.

Then, sprinkle a fresh batch of flour around the area, so that the other prints are covered. When you see enough prints going out to know that they're all outside, cover up the entry point. This is a little tricky, since raccoons are generally nocturnal...I have had them in my house (through the cat door) at 5:00 AM. If you can get up early enough, you should be able to figure out their pattern and stop them from coming back in.
Get a professional to do it. Or get some live traps. Catch all the raccoons. Than make sure your attic is raccoon proof. Block up where they got in %26amp; check for other weak areas they might use %26amp; block them up too. Good luck
    ..moth balls work prety good..
find sumtin that eats rackoons and put it in your attic
Call a wildlife relocator group to put out a live trap. They will then take away the raaccon. Please do NOT handle it yourse;lf. as raccoons are extremely nasty and will bite and scratch.
